چکیده

Infrared spectroscopy is used to investigate the electronic structure and charge carrier relaxation in crystalline films of CrO2 which is the simplest of all half-metallic ferromagnets. Chromium dioxide is a bad metal at room temperature but it has a remarkably low residual resistivity (,5 mV cm) despite the small spectral weight associated with free carrier absorption. The infrared measurements show that low residual resistivity is due to the collapse of the scattering rate at v,2000 cm. The blocking of the relaxation channels at low v and T can be attributed to the unique electronic structure of a half-metallic ferromagnet. In contrast to other ferromagnetic oxides, the intraband spectral weight is constant below the Curie temperature. @S0163-1829~99!14929-4#

High-Quality CrO2 Nanowires for Dissipation-less Spintronics

Superconductor-ferromagnet (S-F) hybrids based on half-metallic ferromagnets, such as CrO2, are ideal candidates for superconducting spintronic applications. This is primarily due to the fully spin-polarized nature of CrO2, which produces enhanced long-range triplet proximity effects. However, reliable production of CrO2-based Josephson junctions (JJs) has proved to be extremely challenging bec...

Double percolation transition in superconductor-ferromagnet nanocomposites.

A double percolation transition is identified in a binary network composed of nanoparticles of MgB2 superconductor and CrO2 half-metallic ferromagnet. Anomalously high-resistance or insulating state, as compared to the conducting or superconducting states in single-component systems of either constituent, is observed between two distinct percolation thresholds. This double percolation effect, w...

Magnetoresistance of Chromium Dioxide Powder Compacts

Cold-pressed powders of the half-metallic ferromagnet CrO2 are dielectric granular metals. Hysteretic magnetoresistance with maxima at the coercive field arises from interparticle contacts. Dilution with insulating antiferromagnetic Cr2O3 powder reduces the conductivity by 3 orders of magnitude, but enhances the magnetoresistance ratio which reaches 50% at 5K. The negative magnetoresistance is ...

Ultra-efficient Cooling in Ferromagnet-Superconductor Microrefrigerators

A promising scheme for electron microrefrigeration based on ferromagnetsuperconductor contacts is presented. In this setup, cooling power densities up to 600 nW/μm2 can be achieved leading to electronic temperature reductions largely exceeding those obtained with existing superconductor-normal metal tunnel contacts. Half-metallic CrO2/Al bilayers are indicated as ideal candidates for the implem...

1/f noise in the half-metallic oxides CrO2, Fe3O4, and La2/3Sr1/3MnO3

The excess low-frequency (1/f ) electrical noise of three representative half-metallic oxides, CrO2, Fe3O4, and La2/3Sr1/3MnO3, has been studied as a function of the temperature ~5–300 K! and a magnetic field ~up to 12 T!. In CrO2 and La2/3Sr1/3MnO3, the resistance fluctuations are investigated in the metallic regime, below Tc . The magnetite noise is measured across the Verwey transition, in t...
